Deep Dive: Patrick Knodel in conversation with Anita Budu
Exploitation, violence and abduction are among the worst forms of child labour. In Ghana, 78 percent of working children are employed in agriculture, including in the fishing industry and in cocoa and palm oil production. International Justice Mission (IJM) is working together with authorities in Ghana to protect and free children from exploitative labour and slavery. Key to this is strengthening legal systems so that existing law is enforced in an effective manner.
During his project visit to Ghana in August 2023, Patrick Knodel spoke with Anita Budu, Director West Africa, IJM. She talks about her daily work, why and under which circumstances children in Ghana are forced to work, and how child slavery can be stopped in the long term and forever.
