In the course of my career, I’ve realized time and again that I’m very privileged as a football pro. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve long felt the need to give something back. Football is a sport that thrives on team spirit and always having each other’s back. That’s what I love about football, and that’s what I want to live off the pitch as well. By supporting the ChanceMaker Foundation, I can help people who are not doing as well as I am to build a better life for themselves. What I particularly appreciate about the work of the ChanceMaker Foundation is that the root causes of global poverty and injustice are clearly identified and addressed to enable long-term, systemic change.

I regularly donate to the ChanceMaker Foundation because I want to support something meaningful that can help people and the planet in the long-term. The foundation’s projects are diverse, but they have in common that they indeed achieve long-term impact and contribute to a fairer world. Educating about global interdependencies, supporting capacity-building in the global South and thinking about sustainability at every level are important factors of the foundation’s work that have convinced me. Patrick Knodel’s personal commitment to go into the minute details of every project and to see for himself first-hand what is happening on the ground is also something I strongly appreciate.

As a consultant for sustainable investments in the global South, I know from my own experience how important it is to kick-start entrepreneurial solutions with the help of charitable contributions, especially in the early stages. This is how effective solutions emerge and thrive, contributing to a more sustainable society and a healthy environment. By promoting innovative social business approaches, the ChanceMaker Foundation makes precisely this possible. To me, this is as a major added value of the foundation’s work, which is why I am happy to support the ChanceMaker Foundation financially.

I support the ChanceMaker Foundation because throughout all of their projects, I can see a strong emphasis on capacity-building in the global South, helping people to help themselves. I am particularly inspired by the various initiatives funded in the field of education. Children and youth are empowered to grow individually and as a collective and are given real-life opportunities to improve their lives and find employment or even create their own jobs right where they live.

I have supported the ChanceMaker Foundation right from the beginning as I consider its work of utmost importance for our society. While providing monetary assistance to impactful and inspiring projects is one important aspect of the foundation, it also creates awareness of the various global and interconnected challenges that humanity and the planet are facing. The numerous conversations with Patrick Knodel and his team have enabled me to better understand the root causes of many global injustices. I am convinced that the various innovative solutions supported by the foundation will contribute in meaningful and impactful ways to address and overcome these injustices.
